‘HITO’ by ANIMA Joins Vienna Shorts this June

ANIMA Short Film Lab entry “HITO” is set to screen at the 20th edition of Vienna Shorts happening from June 1 to 6, 2023.

Fresh off the reels of the Berlinale’s Generation14plus, the critically-acclaimed short joins another prestigious international film festival to inspire a new cinematic experience for film enthusiasts around the world.

HITO” delivers a vibrant and thought-provoking story that explores themes of friendship, self-discovery, and societal oppression. In this film, Director Stephen Lopez expertly weaves together elements of science fiction, drama, and action to produce an engaging story that will have the viewers on the edge of their seats.

ANIMA Short Film Lab’s ‘HITO’ joins Vienna Shorts this June 2023

The film tells the story of protagonist Jani, a young girl living in an alternate version of Manila, who develops an unlikely bond with Keifer, a rehabilitated catfish-shaped bioweapon. Their odd friendship leads Jani to confront the harsh realities of her violent society and the authoritarian regime that governs it.

ANIMA Short Film Lab guides aspiring filmmakers to balance the occupational realities of filmmaking and their unique perspective as artists. This platform gives filmmakers the chance to introduce their art, talent, and creativity to the world with mentorship designed to help creators from ideation to finding audiences.

Every year, Vienna Shorts features around 300 films from all over the world to reach global audiences who get to witness exceptional works from emerging talents in different countries.
